VETERAN football players, who are passionate about football, can now apply to join the first and newly set up Brunei Darussalam Veteran Football Association that was approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on 10th October 2009.
The news of the new association came to light at a press conference yesterday organised by Ali Hj Ismail, a former national goalkeeper who is the vice president 1, Jabar bin Ithnin, treasurer, Hj Zainol Ariffin bin Jumaat, deputy treasurer and Ishak bin Kabon, secretary-general of the pro-tem committee.
The idea of establishing the Brunei Darussalam Veteran Football Association came from the need of setting up an official body to look after the welfare of veteran football players and the development of veteran footballers especially taking part in competitions in overseas and regional level.
Previously, a number of veteran players have taken part in various tournaments overseas on their own initiatives and did fairly well by winning a number of tournaments.
The pro-tern committee was set up in November 2008 to provide assistance in applying for the approval with ROS. The president of the pro-tern committee is Pengiran Anak Hj Damit Baharuddin bin Pg Anak Safiuddin.
Among the aims of setting up the association is to gather veteran football players who are over 35 years old, to take part in competitions organised by bodies like the FFBD. To encourage and develop football accordance to the rules of the games and to organise football competitions.
Ali Hj Ismail said: “We are expecting to send two veteran football teams to take part in the Borneo Football Cup at the end of November this year. The veteran players who want to join must go for a medical check-up to ensure that they are fit enough to compete.”
Membership is open to all residents staying in Brunei Darussalam and the registration fee for joining the association is $100 and an annual fee of $30.
Meanwhile, the first Annual General Meeting for the Brunei Darussalam Veteran Football Association will be held in the meeting room of Indoor Stadium on Sunday, Nov 29 at 7.45pm.
The pro-tem committee would like to convey their gratitude to the Registrar of Societies, the Royal Brunei Police Force who has approved their application.
